Packaging Teknikio's Growing STEM Line

Teknikio makes creative STEM toolkits that blend technology with traditional crafts, founded by Deren Guler to give young inventors, especially girls, hands-on ways to build. Bringing a family of products to market meant packaging that could tell each one apart, stay affordable, and land in time for the holidays. As the line grew and a more premium kit joined it, Teknikio needed a second, more elevated format too — all from one partner, without onboarding a new supplier.

Challenges

Launching a family of products means each one has to stand apart on a shelf, and a young brand has to do it affordably and on time. Teknikio came to PakFactory with three things to solve.

  • Four products that had to look distinct.
Each of the four core kits needed its own clearly differentiated box.
  • Packaging that had to stay affordable.
As a first real run, cost had to fit a young brand's budget.
  • A hard holiday deadline.
Everything had to be ready in time for the holiday season.
  • Room to grow the line.
A more premium kit, Sensors N' Spaces, called for a different, more elevated format — and Teknikio wanted it without switching to a second supplier.

PakFactory made the packaging process very easy, and the pricing was competitive enough to meet my objectives.

PakFactory built one box structure, an 18 PT paperboard sleeve over an e-flute corrugated roll-end tray, and printed it with four artworks. Full-color CMYK offset and matte lamination let each of the four kits carry its own distinct look while sharing a single structure, so they read as a family but are easy to tell apart.

Because all four share one box dimension, there were no extra tooling fees for the additional artwork, and the sleeve-and-tray build delivered protection and a quality feel — keeping a four-product launch within a young brand's budget.

For the premium Sensors N' Spaces kit, PakFactory produced a different format: a collapsible rigid box with a magnetic closure and a spot UV finish that makes the cover artwork catch the light against the surface. The box ships and stores flat, so Teknikio got the elevated feel of a rigid setup box while folding flat cut freight and storage costs — the kind of trade-off that matters most for a growing brand managing landed cost.

With the holidays looming, PakFactory ran the project as a guided, consultative build, gathering the requirements up front and recommending options that fit the brief — so every kit was produced and ready in time for the season. Just as important, covering both a corrugated sleeve-and-tray system and a collapsible rigid box under one partner meant Teknikio never had to vet, brief, or coordinate a second vendor as its packaging needs changed.

Result

Teknikio launched its kits in packaging that made each one distinct and drew twice the engagement at trade shows, with plenty of compliments on the design. One flexible sleeve-and-tray structure gave the brand an affordable way to package a growing product line, and a collapsible magnetic rigid box gave its premium kit a more elevated presence — both delivered by a single partner. The result is a packaging foundation Teknikio can keep building on across formats, without switching vendors as the line grows.
