From Sketch to Shelf: Well Designed Wood's Koozie Display

Well Designed Wood is a family-owned maker in Charleston, South Carolina whose wooden koozies keep a drink cold and a hand warm, first sold at festivals and markets across the southeast. As the brand expanded into wholesale, it needed a way to show a tactile product on a store counter so shoppers understood it at a glance.

Challenges

For a small maker moving into wholesale, the retail counter is where the product has to sell itself. A wooden koozie's appeal is physical, the weight of real wood and the way it sits in the hand, and that is hard to convey when it lies on a shelf. Well Designed Wood came to PakFactory with three things the display had to do.

  • Could shoppers see the whole koozie at a glance?
The product's value shows from every side, including the bottom, which a flat shelf hides from view.
  • Could the display recreate the feel of holding one?
The real draw is a koozie in the hand, so the display had to invite a shopper to pick one up.
  • Could it give a small brand a professional retail presence?
Moving into wholesale, the brand needed the display to carry its name and story, not just hold the product.

The process was simple and easy. From our POV it was a great experience and we would 100% recommend PakFactory to another business.

Solutions

Well Designed Wood landed on a corrugated countertop display designed to show two koozies at once, each set at a different orientation so a shopper can take in all sides, including the bottom. Corrugated inserts hold each koozie at its angle and keep the presentation crisp through restocking.

The display is open by design, which does more than show the koozie, it invites a shopper to pick one up and feel the wood. That hands-on moment is what turns curiosity into a sale, and it is exactly the experience the brand wanted to recreate on a store counter.

Because a wholesale counter is rare shelf space for a small brand, the display was built to carry the branding as much as the product. A printed header and signage space give room for the product name, the brand, and the reasons to buy, so the piece reads as a small storefront rather than a plain holder.

Result

On the counter, the display gives the koozies a professional face the brand did not have at festivals and markets, packing its name and story into a piece that represents it well. It shows the whole product and invites the pick-up that drives sales, and the brand is confident it will lift repeat business on the wholesale side. Sometimes the right display is what lets a small maker finally look as established as its product already is.
